Overloading scooters - how to avoid what we have learned
Scooters have weight limits posted in their specs. Trouble is, they are usually optimistic at best. 120kg seems to be the universal ‘suitability’ weight for something not cast in bronze. Here are the ‘But’s’....
…But the range will often be pitiful for a heavy rider, especially uphill. Factory range? Forget it.
…But heavy riders (or 2-up riders) can easily overheat cabling, melting it and causing shorts
…But the structure of the scooter can fail more easily
So, for all riders, we suggest a 20kg buffer between rider weight and machine max. Match rider size to scooter size (and bigger scooters are more fun!)
